Sea Turtle Nesting Season on Anna Maria Island

Sea turtle nesting season is one of the most special times of year on Anna Maria Island, running roughly from May through October along the Gulf beaches. During these months, loggerhead and other sea turtles come ashore at night to lay their eggs, and local conservation volunteers mark and monitor nests up and down the shoreline. Visitors can support the turtles by keeping beaches dark at night, filling in holes, removing beach gear after sunset, and never disturbing marked nests.
